The names in blue text are those names I believe were actually Mr. Flint. When he was exposed as Immortal by the crew of the Starship Enterprise, I believe that he was being deliberately misleading and also was engaging in a bit of trickesterism. Flint had millennia of practice covering his immortality, this was probably not the first time he had even been found out.

3834 BC. Flint is born in Mesopotamia as the soldier Akharin. After falling in battle, he learned that he was immortal.

In his lifetime, he was also Abramson, Alexander,Johannes Brahms, Leonard Da Vinci, Lazarus, Merlin, Methuselah, Reginald Pollock (from the 20th century), Shakespeare, Solomon and the painter Sten (from Marcus II).

1419 Flint lost Chloe in a village of Bordeaux. He was a wealthy Baron at the time. He sent his servants away and attempted to kill himself by repeatedly stabbing at his heart, cutting away at his vitals. Each time he would pass out from the pain and his body would heal as lay unconscious. A servant concerned about his welfare saw this process one time and Flint was forced to flee accused of witchcraft

Guinan alerts Gary Seven to the existence of a secret scientific research facility in the Antarctic, called Da Vinci Base. Seven and young Khan Noonien Singh go to the base to halt its dangerous experiments. Dr. Wilson Evergreen is actually the immortal Flint. Seven convinces Evergreen to abandon his ozone-layer manipulating experiments.

2063-2064 Zeffram Cochrane returns to Christopher's Landing, Titan, in March 2064 after an eight-month round trip to Alpha Centauri on the first warp-driven spacecraft equipped for long-distance travel, the S.S. Bonaventure (TIME TRAP, Federation). Cochrane's backer is a wealthy industrialist named Micah Brack, who will later be known by the name Flint (Federation, REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH. (Federation is by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens.)

Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) urges Cochrane to leave the solar system aboard the Bonaventure after a layover at Brack's manufacturing setup on asteroid RG-1522. Brack transmits all of Cochrane's design theories, blueprints, and manufacturing logs system-wide. This allows anyone with a few hundred thousand Eurodollars to retrofit existing space vessels into faster-than-light starships, ensuring Humanity's spread to the stars despite impending war approaching on Earth between the World Party and the Optimum Movement.

2070 After three Optimum assassination attempts against him, Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) intentionally disappears, leaving the bulk of his fortune to the Cochrane Foundation for the Study of Multiphysics. Rumors will place him on Mars (helping to draft the Fundamental Declaration of the Martian Colonies), on Altair IV (excavating the ruins of an alien civilization: the Krell) and on Earth (leading any one of a number of resistance cells in regions ruled by the Optimum

2239 Flint, under the name of Brack, purchases the planet Holberg 917G (REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH).

2265 REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH (original series episode)
Kirk and Co. encounter Flint for the first time. McCoy says he will die naturally in about 100 years.
"I have married a hundred times, Captain. Selected, loved, cherished. Caressed a smoothness, inhaled a brief fragrance. Then age, death, the taste of dust. Do you understand?"

2266 The Cry of the Onlies (by Judy Klass)
Kirk and the Enterprise encounter Flint again. Boaco Six, a once-tranquil Federation colony, is now caught up in the throes of revolution. The Enterprise's mission is to re-establish contact with the planet, and determine whether or not formal ties between the Federation and Boaco Six should be strengthened. Negotiations between Captain Kirk and the planet's ruling Council of Youngers proceed smoothly, until the atmosphere of goodwill is shattered by the sudden destruction of a Boacan ship, at the hands of an experimental Starfleet vessel! In order to prevent full-scale war from breaking out, the Enterprise must recapture the stolen Starfleet vessel and its abductors, a mission that will require the aid of the galaxy's most reclusive genius [Flint], and bring Captain Kirk face-to-face with the long-buried secrets of his past.

Flint is starting to age and he without his ability to rapidly regenerate he feels pain more intensely.

Flint has created a cloaking device that has been stolen. Tensions are high between the two powers.

Flint adopts one of the Onlies named Pal.

2305 Flint, now under the identity of A.I. expert Dr. Emil Vaslovik, leads research assistants Noonien Soong (Data’s creator; see many Next Generation episodes) and Ira Graves (worked on the creation of Data; Next Generation episode THE SCHIZOID MAN) on an expedition to Exo III (the android planet first discovered by Dr. Roger Korby as seen in the original series episode WHAT ARE LITTLE GIRLS MADE OF?).

2375 Immortal Coil (by Jeffery Lang)

Flint is still posing as Dr. Emil Vaslovik, who assisted Noonien Soong and Ira Graves in their research, which eventually lead to the successful creation of the android Data. Vaslovik now assists Starfleet expert Bruce Maddox  in the same field. Bruce Maddox appeared in the Star Trek the Next Generation Episode THE MEASURE OF A MAN

For reasons known only to himself, perhaps an immortal’s quirky sense of humor, Flint has named himself after and alien-constructed android that he knew in the 1960s and 1970s: Dr Vaslovik.

It is also revealed that 100 years ago, Flint was able to deceive McCoy’s tricorder into giving false readings of impending death.

We first met Flint the Immortal when the character appeared in Star Trek the Original series episode Requiem for Methuselah. At that time Flint claimed to have been Methuselah, Solomon, Alexander, Lazarus, Merlin, Leonard Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Johannes Brahms, Reginald Pollock (from the 20th century), Sten of Marcus II and Abramson.

His claim to some of these identities may in fact be exaggerations, deliberately misleading or a humorous trick. As to why he would be misleading, there were probably several reasons. First and foremost was that even though he had been exposed as an immortal, he immediately began to muddy the trail of his true existence. It was probably not the first time he had been exposed and it would not be the last.

There was also probably a sense of pride involved in his claim to those names. That Flint had a great ego is something that comes through in his various appearances in the Trek series. Rather than admit that he deliberately spent most of his existence as faceless, average men of moderate accomplishment, he stated that he was some of the most famous men in the history of the earth. While for some people it would have been enough to have actually been Leonardo, Brahms and Shakespeare but Flint's ego needed a larger historical resume. The same phenomenon is encountered with many people who "revisit" their past lives. Very few were ever a honeydipper in Ancient Egypt, a pig farmer in ancient Marseilles or a child prostitute in Victorian England, most often they were Cleopatra, Charlemagne or Duke Wellington.

Flint's first notable identity was that of Methuselah. Methuselah was the direct descendent of Adam, the First Man. Methuselah's father was Enoch. Enoch lived three hundred years after the birth of Methuselah; he had other sons and daughters. Methuselah's grandson was Noah. Methuselah was the longest living person in the Bible for a reason; this was to provide a living link between the Creation and the Deluge. Methuselah died just before Great Flood.

It should be remembered that although Methuselah was the longest living person mentioned in the Bible, he did not live much longer than many other persons did in the antediluvian age. Adam live 930 years, Seth lived 912 years, Enosh lived 905 years, Kenan lived 910 years, Mahalaliel lived 895, and Methuselah lived 969. It was this minor difference that caused the name of Methuselah to become equated with extreme longevity.

The line of Adam through Seth seemed to have a great many long-lived persons. Many Biblical apologists account for their extreme long ages by believing that different environmental or climatic conditions existed prior to the antediluvian age. I believe that there may be another explanation for which I will possibly be pilloried. Adam had three sons, Abel, Cain and Seth. Cain slew his brother Abel and as a punishment was granted an extreme long life and a mark so that no one would slay him by accident. (1) Cain was exiled from Eden, Seth was then left to carry on the Adamic line.

It is from Seth that humanity is descended. The ethnocentric beliefs of this one group of people have become universal truth. It was common for ancient or primitive people to regard themselves as humans or as people and all other tribes or peoples as less than human. Even though there other peoples out there prior to an after the Deluge, they did not matter because they were not human according to their belief system. When this early folklore became adopted as the correct origin of the world, it was believed that these tribes were the only existing humans on the planet when this was far from the truth. I believe that Seth was also known as XauXaz. Seth may have been the Hebrew pronunciation of his original proto-Indo-European name. Seth means Anointed or Appointed One. XauXaz means Most High. These early biblical lineages may relate to dynasties and/or tribes as well as individuals. (2)

There were Nine Patriarchs between Seth and Noah. They are Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalael, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. This may refer to the nine tribes of the Nine at that time; each of the Patriarchs of these tribes received the Elixir, which may be why they could have lived so long.

Yet we still have the problem of Flint. How could he be Methuselah if he predated Methuselah's birth by 500 years? I believe that Flint became the head of the Methuselah Tribe and so became Methuselah. Flint was unique even among the Nine in his longevity because he did not need the Elixir to remain young and he had the ability of instant tissue regeneration. Flint may have heard about a group of clans consisting of long lived beings and thought that they were like him.

Once the Nine realized his ability treated him with respect and awe and adopted him. They probably believed him to have been a son of the Undying God. While linear list of the Patriarchs may be truly a list of genealogies it could also be a document of which Patriarch was the Speaker of the Nine during that period. If so this may solve another problem with Flint being Methuselah and with Lamach and Noah being his descendents.

I believe that Flint was an Immortal of the Highlander variety, his rapid tissue regeneration is one clue of this. Another is that he appeared to have stopped aging about the time when he was killed. Yet another is Dr. McCoy's diagnosis that once Flint left the Earth's unique magnetic fields he had begun to age and had become mortal.

A lesser clue to this is the fact that Highlander type Immortals cannot reproduce. In the various appearances of Flint he talks several times about being married but never mentions children. There is a small mention of Flint's descendents in The Cry of the Onlies but Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy made the statement not Flint. This may in fact have been in the nature of a surmise as to why Flint would adopt one of the Onlies.

If Lamach and Noah were descended from Methuselah, they were probably descendents of the Methuselah to hold that position before Flint. Or else they were adoptive children from the same lineage.

Although there was not a worldwide deluge there were some very great floods which were probably the basis for the Great Flood story. Although recent evidence as given some credence to the theory that the Black Sea area was site of a cataclysmic flood about 7500 years ago, this was much too early to have been the flood which affected Flint's adoptive tribes. (3)

The flood that affected the Nine was possibly a particularly violent and large flood in the Mesopotamian area. The devastation of the Flood wiped out many of the Tribes of the Nine. Once they had been decimated and were no the longer powerful ruling force that they had been, the nearby peoples refused to aid them or to give them succor. They may have regarded them as evil or demonic for their long lives they were accused of bringing the curses of the Gods upon them. They were blamed for the flood.

The remnants of the Tribe of Noah went onto form the basis of the group of Hebrew People. When Noah's descendents wrote the account of the Flood they blamed the rest of the population of the world for its cause, stating that it was their wickedness that caused the deluge.

Flint seems to have disappeared from the area for a while. Where he went we cannot be certain, probably to Egypt and possibly to Mycenea.

In his statement to Spock, Kirk and McCoy he claims to have known Moses. Since he did not claim to have been Moses we can provisionally accept this statement at face value. Providing there was a historical Moses this would place Flint in Egypt about the time of the Exodus. The dates of the Exodus range between 1500-1300 BC. When the Hebrews left Egypt instead of accompanying them Flint may have traveled to Mycenea.

Although there is no strong evidence to support this belief, I believe that he was in the Trojan War which many scholars place about 1250 BC in the site they call Troy VII. Flint was possibly the inspiration for the invincible warrior Achilles. Flint's birth name of Akharin and the name of Achilles are very intriguing phonetically, although the names undoubtedly have different meaning.

Flint returned to the Middle East, at least he claimed to be Solomon the Great whose reign is considered to have taken place 970-928 BC. Had he claimed to have been David, then it may have been more credible since he was a warrior and friend of a King chosen by the King to succeed him.

King Solomon's antecedents are also well known, he was the son of David and Bathsheba. Solomon also had a son Rehoboam. This would  tend to rule Flint out as Solomon unless David had adopted him as a grown man to have an heir once his son Absalom had died.

Rehoboam could have also been Solomon's son by proxy, one of his many wives had given birth to a child that Solomon knew probably was not his but wanted an heir to continue his great kingdom. However since there are religious issues connected with the descent from the line David, we will not pursue this speculation.

Flint was possibly Jeroboam who rebelled against Solomon and led a revolt against Rehoboam and founded another Israelite nation. He was considered wicked because fearing that pilgrimages to the temple in Jerusalem prescribed by the Law might cause the people of his Kingdom to return to the Kingdom of Rehoboam. Jeroboam created two places of worship inside his kingdom in which golden calves were worshipped. Although he too was said to have been succeeded by his son this could have been an adopted son.

It is of little wonder why Flint would rather have been remembered as Solomon the Wise instead of the King who split Israel and caused its ultimate downfall.

After a reign of twenty-two years Jeroboam died. Flint may have stayed in the area for a while or he may have gone wandering once more.

According to his statement to Kirk, McCoy and Spock. He knew Socrates this would put him in Athens circa 470-399 BC (4)

His next fifty or so years are unknown, possibly he lived in Sparta refining his understanding of war. Flint claimed to be Alexander the Great. Although this is one of the most problematic of the persons he claimed to have been, this claim does seem to be accurate.

Alexander's antecedents are well known and well documented. It is also quite certain that Alexander's childhood tutelage by Aristotle is also true. So at first glance this claim would seem to be another one of Flint's exaggerations. How could he have been Alexander when Alexander's childhood was documented? Unless Flint became Alexander at some point in Alexander's adult lifetime. How could Flint carry off such a substitution? Flint had become a master at disguise by this time, able to look younger than his biological age as well as older. Yet he would also to have been familiar with Alexander and someone very close to Alexander would have had to further coach him and allay any suspicions. Was there a possibility that this could have happened?

In 338, Alexander's father Philip of Macedonia divorced Olympia and married Cleopatra (not the Egyptian Pharaoh). Alexander and Olympia were sent into exile. A year later they were recalled to Pella but Alexander and his father remained estranged. Philip's new wife was with child; her kinsmen were in the ascendant; the succession of Alexander was imperiled.

In 336 Philip's new wife had gave birth to a child, some accounts state it was a male child other accounts state it was a female. A few days later Philip was assassinated at the Wedding feast of his daughter to Olympias' brother, Alexander of Epirus.

Alexander was immediately presented to the army as the new king of Macedon. Alexander was not the only pretender to the vacant throne: but recognized by the army, he soon swept all rivals from his path. He established his authority far more firmly than anyone thought possible; he was only 20 and for this reason not universally respected. Since Alexander himself was the main beneficiary of his father's murder, he was suspected of complicity, especially as he was only half Macedonian.

Alexander at once executed all those who were alleged to be behind Philip's murder along with all possible rivals and the whole faction opposed to him. (5)

According to many accounts Olympia was a very ambitious woman in a male dominated world. Her only access to power was through her child Alexander. When Philip divorced and remarried this jeopardized not only Olympias position but that of her son. In exile Olympia waited and planned for Alexander's return to power. Her lover was a military advisor and companion to Alexander. Something terrible happened. Alexander was killed from a fall from a horse and his head was crushed.

Alexander's advisor and companion consoled her greatly in her grief and bereavement. He said that he had felt Alexander's spirit enter him and that he was now part of Alexander. With Olympia he performed crude plastic surgery, breaking his bones and shaping them as they knitted, cutting flesh and binding and shaping as it healed after a long several month process. Alexander's companion Tsakmakopetra was physically identical to Alexander. Olympias thirst for power and her awe at Tsakmakopetra, whom she believed, was either Hermes or Apollo in human form, convinced her to cooperate with this deception.

There also rumors circulated that Olympias had slept with a god and that Alexander was the result of that union, rather than the recently deceased Philip. Later Alexander would be declared the son of Amon-Ra by the Egyptian Priests.

Having achieved power and having kept it in such a methodically violent manner, very few of Alexander's childhood companions or acquaintances were about to remark on any differences they might have noted in Alexander's physique or manner.

Alexander proved to be a superb military commander, a veritable genius in the art of war. Although he was personally kind and generous he could also be unpredictably cruel to those closest to him. The city of Thebes was destroyed as an example to those who would challenge his authority. Olympias was sent into retirement when he left on his campaigns.

Alexander died suddenly in 323 after a drinking bout. Opinion is divided as to whether he was poisoned or the wine contaminated with a disease or if he died of a burst appendix or some other organic malfunction.

It was poison, a rather insidious poison that ate away at his stomach and other innards. Even Flint's instantaneous regeneration was hard pressed to keep up with the substance, which kept destroying his flesh. Flint fell into a coma and was thought dead. His body was take to Egypt and placed in a tomb there. Once he recovered he awoke and killed the nearest person who was about his height and build and stuffed them in his crypt. This was the body on display for centuries in Egypt

Alexander was killed because Roxanne was pregnant. She would later bear Alexander's child posthumously. The father of the child was one of Alexander's close companions. Roxanne and he feared Alexander would fly into a murderous rage should it be discovered she was pregnant. Rather than suffer a possibly horrible death, they poisoned Alexander's wine.

Flint's next claimed historical appearance is some three hundred years after Alexander's death. What he had he had been doing in the past three hundred years we can only speculate. He may have gone to Rome where the shift of world power was just beginning to manifest or he might have gone to Carthage. At this time we cannot be certain.

Flint said he was in Palestine at the time of Christ. He told Kirk, Spock and McCoy that Lazarus was one of his names and that he knew Jesus. This would lead one to make the assumption, given his ability to heal that he was the Lazarus whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

There are a couple of problems with this. Firstly, Lazarus had two sisters Martha and Mary. It was at their behest that Jesus arose Lazarus from the dead. The other problem is a theological one; the raising of Lazarus was a pivotal miracle for Jesus. It proved to many that he was the Messiah, it preshadowed his own resurrection and it also caused the High Priests to seek his death. Flint was therefore probably not the man whom Jesus raised from the dead. Flint was being a bit coy here. He was named Lazarus and he did know Jesus. Lazarus is the Greek form of Eleazar, which was a rather common name among the Hebrew population.

Flint said that he knew Jesus, he did not say that he was a friend of Jesus or a follower of Jesus, only that he knew him. One might believe given his violent past and his immortality that Flint was the man who plunged the Spear into Jesus' side and was cursed to never die, but we know that to be another man. (6) Flint as Eleazar was one of the Jewish irregulars who accompanied the Romans during the Passion and the Crucifixion. He may even have been one of the men who played dice over the robe of Jesus.

There is another three hundred year or so gap in the history of Flint, he stated to Kirk and company that he was also known as Merlin. I must admit to being unsure about this. Although there seem to be at least three men with that name operating about the same time period, Flint seems does not seem to have had the skill or temperament at that time to have been Merlin the Magician or Myrddin or Merlinus Ambrosius. Until Flint became Leonardo he seems to have been pretty much of violence prone bully yet one who shunned great power after the Alexander fiasco.

Flint may have gone to Rome and then to Britain. In Britain he was a mercenary of sorts. He acquired the name Ambrosius, (7) although he does not appear to have been either Aurelius Ambrosius or Ambrosius Aurelius it is possible given the similarity in the names he was confused with them as well as being confused with Merlin. Although there is not any evidence for or against the idea, Flint may have actually fought against Arthur as one of Mordred's soldiers. Rather than admitting he fought on the wrong side of the conflict he would claim to have fought for Arthur and then to advised Arthur and finally to have been Merlin.

In 712, Flint's wife died of old age. (8) They had weathered the fall of the Visigothic Kingdoms of Spain and the Muslim conquest but she could not conquer time. Devastated by her loss and tired of his existence, Flint attempted to hang himself his interfering landlady cut him down. Flint left Cadiz and traveled to France. He probably participated in one or more of the Crusades and therein accumulated wealth and rank.

According to his statement to Kirk and the others, he was in Constantinople in 1314 at the beginning of the Plague, the Black Death which swept across Europe and Asia. Whether Flint was a solider or a businessman at this time is unknown.

By 1400 or so he had become a Baron of a holding in Bordeaux. He once again married, this time to a woman named Chloe. Considering his location in France Flint was probably involved in the French side of the Hundred Years War. The fight rekindled in 1415. It is likely that Flint was involved in the conflicts raging during this time when his wife became very ill in 1418. He rushed to her side but she perished. This loss was even more painful for Flint and he once again attempted suicide. He sent his servants away and attempted to kill himself by repeatedly stabbing at his heart, cutting away at his vitals. Each time he would pass out from the pain and his body would heal as lay unconscious. A servant concerned about his welfare saw this process one time and Flint was forced to flee accused of witchcraft. Burning to death was not the type of death he sought.

Now we come to one of the two most problematic of Flint's claims, yet one which despite all historical evidence to the contrary seems to be true.

Da Vinci is an identity to which Flint referred a great deal. He called his project to heal the Ozone layer the Da Vinci project. When he began his project to create an artificial sentience he used a modified version of Da Vinci's Ecce Homo drawing as a symbol of the project. Spock was certain that the paintings in Flint's chamber were definitely Leonardo's, although done in contemporary oils. Was it merely a clever forgery or was Flint Leonardo? If Flint was Leonardo how does one explain the well-documented youth of Leonardo at the studio of Verrochio? And the verified works he did as a young apprentice?

According to Flint's statement in 2265 he had been a bully and a warrior but he eventually grew to hate war and tried to aid humanity to progress in positive directions. When this conversion came about Flint does not say, however I believe it began when he became Leonardo Da Vinci. I believe that until Flint met up with Leonardo Da Vinci he was a brutal man who enjoyed being a soldier and for a short time, a predatory head hunting Immortal. I will deal with this latter statement in the section called Hidden Quarry: Flint among the Immortals

Leonardo Da Vinci was also a Highlander type immortal (although in the television show it was canonical that all Immortals are foundlings, I consider this notion as part of the self created mythology that these Immortals used to explain why they are apart from mortal humanity. The Game and the Prize are also part of this mythology, which was created by the Immortals to explain their existence and the unique event that happened when one of them died by decapitation. See the Aliens Among Us: Preservers for the true function of the Highlander type Immortals.

Leonardo was unaware of his immortality until he met and fought with Flint. Flint "killed" Leonardo, waited for him to have his first quickening and then took his head. When a Highlander type Immortal takes another's head, he or she does more than just absorb the life force, they also absorb the intellect, memories and personality of the person. Usually the immortals stored these downloaded personas in inaccessible parts of their brain. However on the very rare occasion something can go wrong and the acquired personalities can take over an immortal's mind. This happened to Duncan Macleod and caused him to become a mad killer until he learned to suppress and then utilize the persona's inside him. See Something Wicked. The Immortal Jacob Kell was so deadly and so feared because he had also learned how to tap into the wealth of information he gathered with every quickening.

When Flint took Leonardo's head and Leonardo's massive intellect and Leonardo's personality filled his mind, Flint had an epiphany. He understood the true extent of human potential and realized he had ended a life that could have made a great difference in the human condition. Whether it was a conscious decision to amend for the life he had taken or whether the intellect of Leonardo was just too great for Flint's mind, Flint, in essence, became Leonardo da Vinci, as Leonardo's personality and intellect overlaid the memories of an ancient man.

Although the ability was rare, those Immortals who could fully access the memories and personalities of those they had take could also assume the form of those persona's they accessed.  This may have had to do with the tissue of the Highlander type Immortals being more resilient and plastic. However the aging of Leonardo/Flint had to be accomplished through make-up and the face and form of Leonard became his permanent form.

Leonardo was a genius yet he was also one whose intellect was pulled in many directions at once; he seldom finished those great projects he started. This may have been the influence of Flint who became drunk with the sudden power of his intellect and went from one project to another in an unfocused binge of learning.

There was also the dichotomy of Leonardo using his great intellect to design terrible weapons of war yet while personally hating war. This was Flint the warrior slipping through into Leonardo's consciousness.

The next problematic instance is that of William Shakespeare. Again we know something about his early life and we know that he was married and had three daughters. What we know of Shakespeare's early life was where he was baptized and that he married a girl older than himself. He left at the age of 18 to become an actor and playwright. His marriage was not a happy one by most accounts. While not wishing to offend any descendents of Mr. Shakespeare still alive in the Wold Newton Universe, possibly part of the unhappy marriage was that his wife was unfaithful or desired children which Flint could not provide. Shakespeare/Flint may have had daughters but he did not father them.

After William Shakespeare perished in 1616, Flint left England, even as a younger man he could have been recognized by someone. Interested in the sciences again he spend his time working on optics and astronomy. It was during this period that he would have made the acquaintance of Galileo whom he stated as knowing.

By the time that Galileo died in 1649, Leonardo and Shakespeare were becoming world-renowned figures and with the advent of the printing their images were readily available. Flint resolved to never again become such a world renown figure that he would become so iconic, this could lead to identification and exposure. When a persona threatened to become famous, he would suddenly die.

Flint became Johannes Brahms in a similar manner in which he became Leonardo Da Vinci, yet Flint never lived as Johannes Brahms. Johannes Brahms lived out his entire mortal live without suffering a disease or injury that would have quickened him. Brahms died of disease in 1897 as history states. He awoke as an Immortal.

Disoriented and bewildered by what had happened to him, Brahms had the great misfortune to run across a ruthless neophyte Immortal just days after found himself alive and well. Not having a mentor, being untrained in the arts of war and being physically sixty-four years old, Johannes Brahms did not stand a chance against the ruthless immortal that took his head. Although Flint had vowed never to take another head when he became Leonardo,  he broke that vow this one time. He discovered that this arrogant pup had taken advantage of a physically old but newly quickened immortal.  In this manner Flint/Leonardo also accessed the persona of Johannes Brahms. (9)

Our records of Flint's whereabouts after Galileo's death in 1649 and his presence in Germany in 1897 at the time of Brahm's death and his appearance as Dr. Wilson Evergreen in the 1980's are practically non-existent. Yet as more research is focused on the trail more of his life should be uncovered. We have managed to discover two possible appearances in the seventeenth and nineteen centuries, which will be discussed in section about Flint Among the Immortals.

Flint claimed to have been the painter Reginald Pollack, at least the dialogue stated him as being such on the Star Trek television episode Requiem for Methuselah. I believe that this was not even a true reference made by Flint but rather may have been a topical reference placed in the Star Trek episode by the writers. Reginald Pollack was a renowned painter of the 1960's who recently passed away. Pollack was well known in the Los Angeles area and may have known the writers, crew or production staff of Star Trek and the inclusion of his name may have been something of an inside joke.

There is also the major problem that the Reginald Pollock identity conflicts chronologically with the Wilson Evergreen identity as seen in the Eugenics War by Greg Cox. Since the encounter with Evergreen was a pivotal episode in the life of Khan Noonien Singh and it should not be dismissed. Khan and Gary Seven's encounter with Flint would be a direct cause of Khan's learning of Seven's secrets and his using them to gain power. Khan also used the devise that Evergreen had created.

The Wilson Evergreen and his attempt to control the Ozone layer is also important for another aspect in how it subconsciously affected a friend of Flint's. (10)

It was during the Wilson Evergreen career or in the years prior to his creation of that identity that Flint met and befriended Dr. Vaslovik, a genius attempting to build a sentient android. Flint may have worked on the Questor Project, an experience he would later put to use.(11)

After the incident in 1984, Wilson Evergreen died. We know little of Flint's activities between 1984 and 2050 when he emerged as an industrialist and statesman Michah Brack. As Brack he funded Zeffram Cochrane's warp engine research that was carried out in a lull period of World War Three. When limited warp travel was achieved some people began leaving earth. This was due in no small part to Michah Brack. Brack transmitted all of Cochrane's design theories, blueprints, and manufacturing logs system-wide. This allowed anyone with a few hundred thousand Eurodollars to retrofit existing space vessels into faster-than-light starships, ensuring Humanity's spread to the stars. In 2070After three Optimum assassination attempts against him, Micah Brack (a.k.a. Flint the Immortal) intentionally disappears, leaving the bulk of his fortune to the Cochrane Foundation for the Study of Multiphysics. Rumors will place him on Mars (helping to draft the Fundamental Declaration of the Martian Colonies), on Altair IV (excavating the ruins of an alien civilization: the Krell) and on Earth (leading any one of a number of resistance cells in regions ruled by the Optimum. (12)

Flint actually probably stayed on Earth working in the Warp Five project until he realized that Colonel Green posed a threat to entire civilization on Earth. He worked with Gary Seven's successors in bringing about Green's downfall. (13)When Green became hailed by many as a martyr, Flint was disgusted with Earth and humanity Having a real opportunity to escape Earth he did and traveled in a warp powered spaceship to the human colony on Marcos II. As the painter Sten he achieved more notoriety than he had wished. Sten became celebrated because he was Earth's first off world master painter. Sten had a very short career before dying of native Marcus II bug. To be truthful Flint was not feeling all that well. In the ten years he had spent on Marcos II he had become ill more often than ever in his life, was prone to injuries that did not heal as rapidly as before.

Flint believed that it was some substance on the planet or in its atmosphere that was making him ill and returned to Earth. However after spending a few years on Earth he felt as if nothing had ever been wrong.

Some time around 2210 A young man began making a name for him among computer specialists for is innovative and often groundbreaking theories which expanded the capabilities of artificial intelligence. His name was William Abramson. In 2237 Physicist Richard Daystrom shared a Nobel Prize with William Abramson for their revolutionary computer theory with duotronics, which processed information concerning every atom in the galaxy. Daystrom's later pioneering work in Duotronics will later be supplemented by various Cygnian researchers. (14)

Among the names that Flint told Kirk, Spock and McCoy that he had possessed was the name Abramson. Given Flint's later career as Vlasovik and his knowledge of the Daystrom theorems it is likely that Flint was William Abramson. The winning of the Nobel Prize was too much publicity for this persona and Abramson died the year later. In 2239, a man named Brack purchased the planet Holberg 917G, yet no one noticed that Brack had disappeared almost two centuries before.

In 2265 the crew of the Starship Enterprise comes to Holberg 917G to find a source of ryetalyn, the only cure for Rigellian Fever. They find it inhabited by Mr. Flint and his ward Rayna Kapec. Flint proves that despite the tempering of Leonardo's personality he could at times be a bit of a bastard. He had created what he believed would be the perfect, eternal mate. An anatomically perfect android female with a positronic neural net capable of the full range of human emotions. Yet he needed a catalyst to spark her emotional matrix. Flint used Rayna's obvious attraction for Captain Kirk to bring about the full range of her emotions, believing that when he departed Rayna would turn her emotions towards him. However her positronic next could not survive having to make the traumatic decisions of having to choose between Kirk and Flint. Rayna died.

In the aftermath of her death, Flint realized that his isolation from humanity had blunted his very humanity.

Doctor McCoy had also pointed out the cause of his aging and his sudden mortality. Flint had believed that it was something to do with the planets on which he had lived upon that negated his immortality. He told Captain Kirk he planned to dedicate his remaining years to doing what he could for humanity.

Flint next appears in The Cry of the Onlies which was a sequel to two Star Trek the Original Series episodes, Requiem for Methuselah and Miri. This takes a few years later after the events of these classic episodes. Miri involved a planet identical to Earth complete with a twentieth century civilization that paralleled almost in all particulars that of Earth's. (15)

However three hundred or so years before the Enterprise visiting it, the scientists had been working on a life prolongation project. They had created a genetic virus, which extended the life of children for hundreds of years but proved to be deadly to anyone over the age of puberty. When the slowly aging children reached puberty they would rapidly succumb to the virus. Enterprise found a handful of children existing in the ruins of the twentieth century civilization.

Although there was a large debate as to whether this violated the Prime Directive, the children were eventually turned over to an Emergency Starfleet team who provided shelter, education and guidance for the children. One of the team Dr. Voltmer who used a hypno training device to place false memories and delete memories from the children in an attempt to make them behave to his standard of behavior. Several of the children rebelled. Two stole a Starfleet shuttle, raided a Starbase and stole the Flint device.

The Flint device was a cloaking devise similar to the one Flint used on his planet to disguise his presence. He had designed one for the Federation only to keep them on an even balance with the Romulans but after they had lost it he regretted giving it to them. According to the book Flint had become something of a celebrity. Starfleet had checked all of his claims and they had become satisfied that he had been everyone he had claimed to have been. Well as we know for various episodes of the show, historical records are not always accurate or complete. Records on this era are unclear.... Besides Flint could have manipulated the existing records to make it appear as though his claims were true and so hid the real truth about his lives.

Flint became involved in the search for his missing device and became interested in this planet of immortal children. He took up residence on the planet and even adopted an Onlie named Pal.

In The Cry of the Onlies Flint was experiencing all the pains and aches of being mortal. It was as if this was a new experience for him. However this could not have been if he had been off of Earth for over thirty years in 2267 it is unlikely he would have started aging or sudden turned mortal just as the Enterprise showed up to tell him he was mortal. He had known of his condition, he had just been unaware as to what caused it.

As a resident of Juram Five Flint became an advocate of administering the cure to the virus to the children despite that it would "shorten" their lives.

After Pal had grown up and apparently emotionally adjusted and had forgotten his trauma, Flint returned to Earth and began using the name Dr. Emil Vaslovik, in tribute to his long "deceased" friend and mentor who specialized in the field of artificial intelligence. Feeling guilty about having manipulated the sentient being Rayna and used her mercilessly, Flint dedicated this lifetime to creating artificial sentient intelligence.

Pal would eventually earn high honors in the field of physics and robots himself under the name Ira Graves. He would assist Dr. Dr. Emil Vaslovik for years before becoming bitter about working besides the unaging immortal when he had sacrificed his own immortality. He later build a device to transfer human intelligence into machines and attempted to take over Data's body. (16)

Although in the novel Immortal Coil Vaslovik or Flint claimed that he had tricked McCoy's tricorder into believing he was dying, the truth the matter was that he was dying, although very slowly.

Once McCoy had identified the problem for him, Vasolvik solved the problem by returning to Earth once inside its magnetic field once again his body began to repair the damage it had sustained including his aging over the past forty years. Once Flint realized how the process worked he created a device which would duplicate the correct magnetic resonance which activated his immortality.

In 2275 Flint as Dr. Emil Vaslovik became involved with Data and the crew of the Enterprise. It was revealed that Flint was giving sanctuary to the various sentient machines that the Enterprise had encountered for the last few years. As Dr. Emil Vaslovik Flint had duplicated and surpassed Dr. Noonien Singh and created an android with a stable positronic neural net yet one which could fully pass for human, which for a time she did. Although the android Rhea and Data became instant soul mates she departed with Flint and Data returned to the Enterprise. (17)

This is so far the last appearance of Flint.

Although, I have mentioned his known origin, a few words should be said about Flint's unknown origins. While it is true that he was born in ancient Mesopotamia and that he was a warrior and a bully who died on the battlefield when a spear pierced his heart, there is more to the story than just that.

Flint had heritage that made him unique, even among the Immortals. His name was Akharin (Ak-ha-ri-en/in) which may have had many meanings. "He of many origins" "He was begotten of exiles " "Lord of Many Plans" among them. (18)

Akharin's people were Sumerians. The Sumerians lived "in an area now in Kuwait and northern Saudi Arabia, a mysterious group of people, speaking a language unrelated to any other human language we know of, began to live in cities, which were ruled by some sort of monarch, and began to write. These were the Sumerians, and around 3000 BC they began to form large city-states in southern Mesopotamia that controlled areas of several hundred square miles. The names of these cities speak from a distant and foggy past: Ur, Lagash, Eridu. These Sumerians were constantly at war with one another and other peoples, for water was a scarce and valuable resource. The result over time of these wars was the growth of larger city-states as the more powerful swallowed up the smaller city-states. Eventually, the Sumerians would have to battle another peoples, the Akkadians, who migrated up from the Arabian Peninsula. The Akkadians were a Semitic people, that is, they spoke a Semitic language related to languages such as Hebrew and Arabic. When the two peoples clashed, the Sumerians gradually lost control over the city-states they had so brilliantly created and fell under the hegemony of the Akkadian kingdom which was based in Akkad, the city that was later to become Babylon.

But that was not the end of the Sumerians. The Akkadians abandoned much of their culture and absorbed vast amounts of Sumerian culture, including their religion, writing, government structure, literature, and law. But the Sumerians retained nominal control over many of their defeated city-states, and in 2125 BC, the Sumerian city of Ur rose up against the Akkadians and gained for their daring control over the city-states of southern Mesopotamia. But the revival of Sumerian fortune was to be short-lived, for after a short century, another wave of Semitic migrations signed the end of the original creators of Mesopotamian culture.

But history sometimes plays paradoxical games and human cultures sometimes persist in strange ways. For the great experiment of the Sumerians was civilization, a culture transformed by the practical effects of urbanization, writing, and monarchy. While the Sumerians disappear from the human story around 2000 BC, the invaders that overthrew them adopted their culture and became, more or less, Sumerian. They adopted the government, economy, city-living, writing, law, religion, and stories of the original peoples. Why? What would inspire a people to deliberately adopt foreign ways" (19)

Yet who were the Sumerians originally? Akharin's ancestors arrived in the area between the two Rivers and at first fought with and then cooperated with the Proto-Sumerians. Although the proto-Sumerian religious and cultural life dominated the area, the language, science and writing came from Akharin's ancestors. Even though the proto-Sumerian religion became the dominant religion in the area, Akharin's family still kept to their old ways and indeed, Akharin's worshipped the ancestral gods in his youth even to the point of adopting the family totem as his secret name.

Akharin's people worshipped the Flint God. They believed him to be the Bringer of Fire, the Maker of Tools and so the God who best served man. They also believed that the Flint God was married to the Water Goddess and their son was the Sky Flint-The Storm God whose sparks brought life giving rain. Their symbol was the Flint Stone. Akharin's direct ancestor known as Ugusa (Head Breaker) Hum-Hum (Smash-Smash) or by the onomatopoetic name Bam-Bam. Legend had it he was a great and powerful man of immense strength. He was a warrior of fearsome reputation whose favored method of dispatching his enemies was to grab two men by their hair and smash their skulls together. Bam-Bam.

The people of Bam-Bam had wandered about the world for many years. Bam-Bam was not immortal but he did have a very long life. This was undoubtedly because he was the grandson of the Flint God. His Father was one of two brothers who were the sons of the Flint God. Bam-Bam's father was the Prophet of the Flint God, his brother was the Peaceful Ruler of the Flint God's People. Bam-Bam had mated with the Peaceful Ruler's only daughter Pa-è-bi-lal-zi (Shining Sweet and True.) The people of Bam-Bam had fled from their legendary homeland when a cataclysmic flood and destroyed Bi-de-ru-ki which literally means Speak, Shape and Send Forth Shoots Place. This appears to mean that this was a place of great innovation, intellect, science and invention which attempted to spread their philosophy and science.

Bam-Bam became Pu-ba (20) the head of the fugitive tribe whose living gods returned to the Heavens and so he carried the Flint Stone, the first stone from which Fire was made and the first Axe was shaped. He passed it on through the generations but it was lost during the Akkadian invasion.

The two living gods from whom Bam-Bam and Akharin were descending were actually Ollu and Buzsla whose long careers are examined as best we can in Immortal Befuddled Part One: Double Trouble. More details about Bi-de-ru-ki can be found in the prehistory section of this article.

Flint would meet these two gentlemen a few times in the course of his long life, although for many years they ran from him on sight. Flint first ran into the two around 1440 in Constantinople. Flint had just discovered his ability to undergo a quickening, which is to absorb the memories and life force of a Highlander Immortal after beheading them. When he saw Ollu and Buzsla they looked very familiar to him. Buzsla also stared at him with an undue amount of familiarity. Flint spent several sleepless nights wondering who the two were until he suddenly recalled where he had seen them before. The two resembled clay busts that his family had possessed representations of the brothers who were the first leaders of the Flint Stone clan.

Flint realized that they were probably Immortals like him. The prospect of taking their ancient heads and absorbing their life forces was very enticing for him, especially if was because of them that he had been consigned to this endless, bloody existence. At this time Flint had abandoned all pretense of being human, his last wife's death and his inability to kill himself and the persecution by the church for witchcraft had soured him. When he had learned about the Game, that is the ritualized warfare that the Highlander Immortals conducted among themselves, he had seen the purpose in their creation and in the Game. Flint was no longer alone he was part of a community of Immortals, who like him, regarded the quick living mortals with contempt.

Flint made his way to the ceramics shop that the two ancient Immortals ran. He said the words, Bam-Bam to them to see their reaction. At their startled recognition he told them that he was the son of Bam-Bam as he moved to embrace them he also ripped out his sword. The two Immortals however had not lived this long without being able to see a feint like this coming. They threw salt in his eyes, slashed open his belly with a sword and ran away.

He saw them twenty years later in Florence, in 1478. He was one of a group of assassins hired to kill the Medici brothers. He had escaped and hid out in plain sight by visiting a local tavern. Inside the Tavern he saw his two ancestors talking to a young man who had been at the Medici Palazzo. Flint felt the slight hum of the quickening force buzz from this young man. Flint's sense of the quickening force was weak and from this individual, Flint barely registered anything at all so he rightly concluded that this was a pre-quickened Immortal. This would be a real treat. He would first quicken the kid, take his head and then take his ancestors heads.

When the young man and Flint's two ancestors left, Flint followed and goaded young master Leonardo into a sword fight. He stabbed Leonard through the heart and killed him. When his two ancestors attacked him in a rage, he quickly knocked them unconscious and turned his attention back to Leonardo. Leonardo's stab wound healed and Leonardo felt a rush of energy and power fill his form. This feeling was cut short by Flint's sword cutting through Leonardo's neck. Flint absorbed Leonardo's life force.

Leonardo had the last laugh for his personality was strong enough to blend and to a certain extent dominate Flint's personality. Flint became Leonardo da Vinci and Leonardo Da Vinci acquired some of Flint's characteristics as well.

Leonardo/Flint disposed of Leonardo's dead body. When Ollu and Buzsla awoke a few minutes later they saw Leonardo standing before them hale and hearty. Yet the sword fight had changed Leonardo for he became more distant towards Ollu and Buzsla and he focused most of his attention on his work, leaving to a great extent the frivolities of his youth behind.

It was years later that Leonardo/Flint under the name of Senor Pederneira that ran into Ollu and Buzsla once more. He explained to them what had happened although he tailored the story to make it more palatable for them. He said that Leonardo had become a Highlander type Immortal but that Flint had cut off more than he could chew. Leonardo had taken his head and had in a sense become Flint but he had vowed never again to play the Game and not to take another head. Ollu and Buzsla had nothing to fear from him. Still they kept their distance from him because even though Flint/Leonardo did not want to play the game, others might not have the same desire to abide by his decision.

Ollu and Buzsla ran next ran into Flint/Leonardo of all places in the United States just prior to the Civil War. Flint/Leonardo was Captain Flint a member of the United State Military and a part of the new enterprise the pony express. He used his influence to get Ollu and Buzsla positions as Stationmasters. Still however they kept their distance from him, believing that his very presence could endanger their lives. As a Highlander type Immortal his very presence could alert any one of those other beheading nuts. They were however wrong about this as will be explained in the next section. Hidden Quarry: Flint Among the Immortals.

As has been covered in the previous two sections I have speculated that Flint the Immortal is a Highlander type Immortal. Yet strange as it seems it does not appear that he was an active participant in the Game, the ritualized warfare among Highlander type Immortals. It would further appear from his two suicide attempts in 712 and 1419 that he was unaware that he could only die by beheading. This would seem to mean that even up to 1419 he had not met any other Highlander Immortals. Considering how Duncan MacLeod ran into a different Immortal at least 20 times a year for five years running this seems rather odd. This is especially true considering that predatory Highlander Immortals should have sensed his presence and goaded him into a fight to try and take his head.

In the Aliens Among Us articles I made the assertion that there were such beings as shielded Immortals. Site collaborator David Vincent Jr. created this term. It was David Vincent Jr. 's belief that nearly all Immortals on the Earth stemmed from one source and that their function was to be information gathering devices for an alien race called the Preservers who wished detailed records of humanity's history through human memories. He believed that these Immortals were divided into two distinct types, Highlander type Immortals and Shielded Immortals. In the latter category were lumped all of the Immortals who were not Highlander type Immortals.

I believe that David Vincent jr. was correct about the origins of the Highlander type Immortals however I also believe that his paranoia clouded his judgement and made him see extra-terrestrial influences where there were not any to be found. An example was his claim that all vampirism was derived from a mutation of the Highlander genotype, his prejudice against the supernatural or against explanations not having an extraterrestrial influence lead to biased research and conclusions.

The term shielded Immortals should actually be used rather sparingly for so far as I can determine it actually only applies to a handful of people, Flint being among them. Others shielded Immortals may include Donar, possibly Lord Byron, Myrddin, Mr. Am and Peter Pan, although the latter may in fact be a Thoan. Each of these appear to have had the random mutation for the Highlander Immortality yet also either had a family history of "natural" immortality (that is a genetic history of immortality or else they had also achieved immortality through another process or through imbibing a substance. Donar for example was the son of XauXaz and a woman named Jord. The woman must have carried the Highlander mutation in her genetic history and it must have manifested in Donar. Donar was one of those unfortunates who reacted badly to the Elixir. On his twenty-fifth year he was given his first dose and it killed him. Yet he revived and never aged again and he never needed to take the Elixir again.

Flint had a history of immorality in his family that may have affected his Highlander abilities when they manifested. Although Flint possessed the rapid regeneration and the ability to absorb the energy of other Highlander Immortals at their true deaths by beheading, he was "sensor blind" to them. Although Flint had always known that certain people for no discernable reason he could fathom made him feel uneasy, he did not know why. He was sensing on a very low level the Highlander energy matrix that connected each Highlander Immortal to the Earth's Electromagnetic field. When other Highlander Immortals sensed him, it was as if they were sensing another Immortal from very far away and so did not equate him with what they felt. (21)

It was only by sheer accident Flint discovered his dual heritage when a Highlander Immortal attacked him during a tavern brawl in 1420 Marseilles. The Highlander eviscerated Flint and left him for dead. When Flint arose with rapid healing he stabbed the Highlander in the back and severed his spine. Flint was amazed that the other person revived.

The man smiled at Flint said to "Flint, well you're a mystery I'll solve when I look at the lives pouring out of your neck. In the fight that ensued Flint survived several serious wounds but lopped off the other fighter's arm and then the other one when the Immortal attempted to fight one handed. When the armless man attempted to flee Flint cut his leg off at the knee and then the other one.

The Immortal spit in Flint's face and told him to stop being a cruel, malicious bastard and get it over with, to take his head.

Flint took the Immortal's head. This Immortal had been a young Immortal only about fifty years old but he had taken about ten heads. Flint reveled in the glorious rush of power and in the tiny bits of experience, memory and sensation that filled his mind at the Quickening.

From 1420 to 1476 he lived as an assassin, mercenary and as a predatory Highlander Immortal. He was especially deadly for while he had learned to sense other Highlanders they for the most part could not sense him. To be certain his feelings were not always foolproof and he killed a few mortals along the way but they were fated to die anyway.

Had Flint not met, fought and absorbed Leonardo it is possible he would have become an even malicious and deadlier Immortal than either Jacob Kell or the Kurgan. After becoming Leonardo he vowed never to actively seek to take a head again, he broke that vow once and took head of the Immortal who had just killed Johannes Brahms.

He nearly broke it much earlier around 1700 after he met Mough, Lorezno and Caer-Lugh. These three men had become Immortals at the same event, which had also conferred Immortality upon Ollu and Buzsla, although the annals of the Flint Stone clan were devoid, any mention of them. The Three were from the other Tribe and so regarded by Ollu and Buzsla as less than human and as enemies to be avoided, although they modified this view over the years they still avoided them as they avoided any other Immortals. Flint was therefore unaware of their antecedents, as they were unaware of his.

In Germany Flint under the name of Amos Feuerstein owned a building which had a small apothecary shop in it run by Mough, Lorenzo and Caer-Lugh. Their cures seemed to have a higher rate of success than many other physicians did in the city at the time. He discovered however that many of their drugs were in fact placebos. He considered this to be a deceptive practice but let them continue practicing their craft on his property since some people actually were helped. His wife thought they were amusing. Flint received an offer from a produce man who promised to pay a higher rent and also give Flint a share of his proceeds for the prime location. He told the three apothecaries that they would have to leave the premises and pay two years back rent.

Desperate Mough told him that they had discovered the secret of Eternal youth and offered to give to this wife. As proof Mough slapped Lorenzo hard across his bald forehead hard enough to leave a bruise. As Flint watched the bruised healed. Mough claimed to be hundred of years old which they had achieved by drinking a certain potion which they would give to him in lieu the back rent and future rent for the same period. Flint did not get any feeling from these men as he did other mortals so in desperation he took them at his word.

Flint was married and had been married for twenty years, his wife was aging and he could not bear to lose another loved one. He agreed to the exchange. His wife had come to realize Flint's eternal youth and tried the potion with the hopes that they could be together forever. The potion was a fraud that became apparent when she slashed her hand to see if it would heal. Flint had just wanted to see if she continued to age because he did not want to cause her any injury. The cut became infected and she became very ill. Flint pulled her through the sickness although she remained very weak. Angered beyond belief, Flint visited the apothecary's shop only to discover the Three men clearing out. He demanded his money for the back rent and money for damages to his wife. When they refused he lost his temper and began slapping them around. In the melee that followed the Three knocked him out and escaped.

In the short subjects All Gummed Up and Bubble Trouble which were based on the Three's encounter with Flint, things are switched about so that Flint looks like the bad guy and that the Stooges were successful in their eternal youth drug.

Flint wisely avoided getting into a direct conflict with the other individual who also received immortality from the fallen meteorite that conferred immortality at the same time as Ollu, Buzsla and the Three. This man was Kane, who had been exiled from the tribes of the Nine for the wanton act of murdering his brother Abel. Kane was the brother of XauXaz, also known as Seth. Although at the time Kane became Immortal the Nine had not yet discovered the secret of prolonged life. At the time Kane was using the name Vadar Ang and had become a member of the Blood Tribe.

Kane's acquired immortality became part of the legend that it was part of the curse placed upon him by God. The Meteorite was believed to have been a fragment of the planet Thyoph that was supposedly destroyed by God or a god named Azathoth. So to some of that bent, it seemed that some deity had sent had placed this meteorite there to confer upon Kane the curse of Immortality. There are legends that along with his immortality the meteorite affected Kane in other ways. When he became angry or excited his eyes would glow with an odd luminosity, this lead people to believe that this was the Mark of Cain so placed upon him by God. Also he acquired the ability to traverse space time and other dimensions. This was an ability Kane apparently passed onto other of his descendents such as Lemuel Gulliver, Tarzan, John Carter, Maureen Birnbaum and many others.

Kane's earliest record of activity took place over a period of 2000 years prior to the formation of the Hyborean World as seen in the annals of Kane as written by Karl Edward Wagner. After he purportedly traveled to the home dimension of the god who created him, he returned to Earth and worked in the shadows as the man behind the throne. Although there are rumors that he was Genghis Khan or Julius Caesar, these are unproven.

There are also rumors that he was among the founders of the Illuminati which he used to his own purposes these are also as yet undocumented. Considering that there are conflicting sects of the Illuminati it is possible he may be responsible for one of these. This one or this one?

While Flint/Leonardo did not hide from Kane he did not actively go against him nor did he seek his company. He probably knew him by reputation after becoming part of the Tribes of Nine for the short time that he was. After he gained a conscience, Flint subtly thwarted in many ways the designs of Kane but not actively. Flint/Leonardo's response to human cruelty and barbarity after 1476 was not to answer in kind but rather to uplift humanity by working through the sciences and the arts, in this way he hoped to counter many of the evil designs of Kane and men like him.

In London of 1820 Leon Silas visited the establishment of Hamilton Kopp a dealer in rare books. Silas immediately noted that Kopp was another Immortal, he sensed him…strongly. To make matters even more odd, Kopp sensed him as well and reached under his counter for pistol and sword which he held out of sight.

Leon Silas held his hands and arms outstretched to show he meant no harm.

Knowing there was little use at pretense, Silas remarked that it was unusual for anyone to sense him.

Kopp nodded and remarked that his teacher had told him he had an unusually strong quickening. Kopp also told him that his teacher had said there were secret Immortals that could not be sensed by ordinary mortals but by and large they stayed out of the Game.

Silas nodded. He browsed the shop and returned with a exceedingly rare book, a notebook of Leonardo da Vinci's. Kopp complimented him on his taste but frowned when Silas told him it was a forgery. Kopp assured him that the document had been authenticated as coming from Leonardo's workshop.

Silas smiled and said that much might be true but Leonardo did not sketch the drawings or write the notes. It was his apprentice Salai who created the notebook and had tried to pass it off as Leonardo's work after Leonardo had died.

Smiling wryly Kopp muttered something about "Damned Amanda" And asked Silas if he had known Leonardo

Silas laughed and replied, " I was Leonardo".

The longtime friendship of Hamilton Kopp a.k.a. Connor MacLeod and Leon Silas a.k.a. Flint began.

Flint stayed out of the Game completely and Conner only played when someone forced his hand, which unfortunately seemed to be quite often. Flint realized that in a way Conner MacLeod was much like him,  in that he could access, although unconsciously, the memories, thoughts, sensations, emotions and knowledge of those lives he absorbed. Connor's powerful quickening made him stronger, faster and deadlier than most other Immortals yet it also caused him to be the most miserable. The weight of all those lives, all the continued loneliness wore on him. The constant fighting and being forced to kill or be killed destroyed his spirit.

Flint had a marked influence on Connor MacLeod and this influence will help to explain the seemingly disjointed continuity of the four Highlander films. For more see Highland Laddie Gone: The Saga Connor MacLeod

There is another group of Immortals with whom Flint undoubtedly had contact, these are the Prometheans of whom Morgan Primus a.k.a. Morgan Lefler a.k.a. Number One seems to have either been a member of or had contact with. Unfortunately our information on these mysterious Immortals is slim so we cannot even hazard a guess as what if any contact Flint may have had with them. (22)

Notes

1. XauXaz was the Leader of the Nine for 30,000 years. Portions of his tale have been told in A Feast Unknown, The Mad Goblin and Lord of the Trees by Philip Jose Farmer. I have speculated on XauXaz and the Nine in the articles Triple Tarzan Tangle and Tarzans in Valley of Gold.
2. The adventures of Cain or Kane in the world of thousands of years ago can be found in the works of Karl Edward Wagner, most notably Darkness Weaves and Bloodstone.

3. The story of the Black Sea Flood hypothesis is found in Noah's Flood: The New Scientific Discoveries about the Event that Changed History, by William Ryan and Walter Pitman. A recap of the theory can be found at the PBS site.

4. Since the Immortal Methos also knew Socrates one can only wonder if Flint and Methos were acquainted. Then again Methos was a name-dropper like Flint and so one of them could have been exaggerating.

5.Much of my information for Alexander the Great came from this great site.

6.That man is Casca Rufio Longinius whose career as another Immortal can be seen the novels of Barry Sadler. For an overview please see Andrew Henry's The Casca Chronology

7.This may have been due to his unchanging youthfulness Ambrosius means Immortal. Flint may have passed his eternal youth off as a gift from a god.

8. This bit of information is derived from The Cry of the Onlies as his presence in Bordeaux in 1419.

9.Although the novel The Cry of the Onlies has a long section in which Flint remembers posing as Brahms, this was Flint recalling Brahms memories; he still hid the true nature of his immortality. One intriguing phrase was "Flint had never composed music before he became Brahms."

10. For more details please see Highland Laddie Gone: The Saga of Connor MacLeod.

11. Flint would design and build two androids with positronic brains with human level emotional range. The first Rayna would perish of cascade failure in 2265. The second Rhea would help the crew of the Enterprise D stop a threat to the Federation by flawed and malevolent alien androids

12. Information taken from the Earth Timeline

13. In The Islands of Dr. Moreau I surveyed a couple of alternate Wold Newton futures, there is another one which deserves mentioning. It is a universe where the Federation never arose and technology has taken odd turns. It is a future where space travel between the planets using what appears to be modified warp/impulse engines is common place yet along side warp technology the commonplace technology is more mechanical using tubes, gears, cogs, sprockets. Sophisticated AI intelligence computers are housed inside clumsy metal mechanical devices, creating clunky robots servants. The two largest businesses in the Solar System are suppliers of cogs and sprockets. Although it appears to be a near Utopia with great technological achievement the happy portrayal of a typical family hides a dark past. This space age civilization arose out of the ashes of great destruction and the deaths of millions of people. People live in vast towers that pierce the sky because most of the Earth is a blasted wasteland. The technology is so ad hoc, so juxtaposed between Warp drive era and primitive mechanics because the Earth arose out of a new Dark Age in the Warp drive era. Many records were most, technological and social. Much of the technology was tailored to reflect the golden Age of Man's achievement as portrayed in the World's Fair of 1938.

This is the future arising from the success of Colonel Green and the Optimal Movement. The fruits of Green's victory were a new dark ages and genocide unprecedented in the history of mankind. Although the Optimal Movement began as a multi-ethnic organization, Colonel Green had designed this as part of his over all stratagem. Eventually it became more Optimal for people to be organized into regions based on their ethnicity categorized on their creed and intelligence and physical ability. In the aftermath of the Third World War the population of the Earth had plummeted due to disease, war and famine leaving many depopulated areas. Optimization Regions were organized for the lazy, the stupid, the unfit and the undesirables where they were taught Optimal behavior. According to Colonel Green, "Society can never rise out of the quagmire of mediocrity until its members are optimal, composed of the best and brightest that the race has to offer. The poor, the stupid, the unfit, the undesirables--these do nothing but drag the rest of society down," In actuality these Optimization Regions were vast killing areas in which the seeds of mediocrity were eliminated. Colonel Green is said to have gotten the idea for this from an ancient tale called The March of Morons by C. M. Kornbluth. Optimal Forces used nuclear weapons to break the colonies on the other solar planets. Eventually it became Optimal to permanently separate the races. A vast flotilla comprised of all the extant ships was organized to drop the ethnic settlers on Mars, Venus, etc. The settlers never made it past the moon. With these settlers went much of the intellectual and cultural wealth of the Earth.

Although it eventually took fifty years Colonel Green and the Optimal Movement fell from power and its policies abandoned, the damage was too extensive, most of the non-Caucasian population of the solar system had been killed and much of the technological expertise of the previous generations had also disappeared. The survivors of Green's regime upon learning the full truth of his actions and their often willing and often unwitting cooperation with them abandoned their old culture. They took new surnames, which embodied a new hope, a new outlook that was not Earth centered but rather focused towards the horizon of space and interstellar travel. Much of the Earth was a ruin either through nuclear, chemical or biological warfare and vast tracts of the "good" land were discovered to contain mass graves. These were left as they were as reminders of the great evil of Green's regime and as a reminder of what the human race had lost. Yet in truth most people found the horror too incomprehensible, too unsettling to dwell on, they built their multi-mile skyscrapers as much for practical reasons as to avoid being constantly reminded of what had happened. Overall most of the people of the small solar federation did not discuss the past, they put on happy go lucky demeanors and they built machines to do most of the work for them. These oddly sophisticated machines were cobbled together from their odd technological legacies.

Although the majority of those descended from what we call the Wold Newton family were wiped out either fighting Green or his policies, there is one member of a Wold Newton family that we can point to in the alternate future. His birth name was Tralfaz, but the family that adopted him named him Astro. Astro was a descendent of Scoobert Rogers.
